Young Women and Media Group Starting this Fall!

The Young Women and Media group was initiated in response to the many young women who requested a counterpoint to the Reggie Pedro Young Men of Color Group. The Young Women and Media group will allow for the same atmosphere of candid conversation surrounding issues of representations of women, of all colors, in the media. The young women, ages 14-21, will be partnered with working female artists to study the media, from music videos to the news, television and film, and recreate images of woman that they feel better represent who they aspire to be. The program founders felt that it was integral to have teaching leadership that reflected the students in the class to engender candid discussions and create a safe space for women and their peers to feel comfortable discussing issues they face in the job market, in education, and in their social life.

The group will meet Thursday afternoons, 4-6PM, in the DCTV facility.

Students who are interested should contact Chinisha Scott at chinisha@dctvny.org.
